Former Glen Mills Students Seek Justice for Abuse Claims

In March 2019, a class action lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on behalf of former students of Glen Mills Schools in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. The lawsuit alleges that Glen Mills Schools and its employees systematically subjected children and young adults to emotional, mental, and physical abuse. These victims, who were forced to remain at the school due to their age and backgrounds, now seek compensation for the severe trauma they endured.

Decades of Abuse

The class action followed a February 2019 investigative report by the Philadelphia Inquirer, which exposed decades of misconduct. The report revealed that the abuse was the result of a deliberate effort by the administration and staff to conceal the mistreatment of students and obstruct external investigations. Documentation obtained by the plaintiffs shows repeated attempts to prioritize secrecy over accountability. The Inquirer also uncovered that Glen Mills Schools failed to properly screen and train staff, including those in direct contact with vulnerable students. These failures led to years of extreme physical abuse and lifelong emotional and psychological harm.

In addition to seeking compensatory damages for the victims, the lawsuit requests that Glen Mills Schools release records from 2000 to the present for review. This includes allowing victims to inspect the records and ensuring they are provided to government agencies for potential further action.
